We all know that Google Analytics provides the best analytics data for our blogs, but many of us choose to use Jetpack stats to instantly see how our blog is doing – I know I do! There are plenty of reasons that you might want to hide a referrer from your Jetpack stats – in my case it was so that I didn't get a daily reminder that a thread on the gossip forum Tattle exists about me. Here is how you can easily remove a referrer from Jetpack stats.
What is a referrer in Jetpack?
A referrer in Jetpack is simply where someone has arrived at your blog from.
For instance, they might have clicked through from Pinterest, Facebook or Twitter.
If you have been featured in a news article with a link this is also usually the first place you find out.
In my case I was seeing traffic from Tattle, which I didn't want to see.
I don't hate myself enough to care about what anonymous people on the internet think about me – and I wanted to remove the daily reminder.
Step one – visit your WordPress jetpack stats
Once logged into your WordPress dashboard, navigate to Jetpack>Stats and load up your stats.
Step two – view your enhanced stats on WordPress.com
Once your Jetpack stats have loaded you need to view them on WordPress.com to be able to remove a referrer.
At the top of the page under today's date and time you will see a link to view your enhanced stats on WordPress.Com.
Click on the ‘Show Me' button.
Step 3 – connect your blog with WordPress
If you haven't yet connected your blog with WordPress then do this now.
Step 4 – identify the referrer you want to remove
Scroll down on the stats page until you see your referrers.
Identify the referrer you want to remove.
Step 5 – mark as spam
The final step is really simply.
Alongside your referrer you will see three black dots.
If you don't see it then simply click on ‘View All' where there is more space and more referrers shown.
Click on those 3 black dots and a new option will appear in red – the option to ‘Mark as Spam'.
Just click that and you are done! That referrer will no longer show up in your Jetpack stats.
